Sally Meding PhD

”I am particularly  intrigued by color and texture. I like to mix soft, hard and lost and found edges in my work. ”

What others say:

Sally is an award-winning, British-born artist who is focused on semi-abstract works on canvas using thick irresistible textures which tempt you to reach out and touch them- and to ponder how was that surface created! She compliments her impastos with soft lost and found edges and intertwines interesting shapes into the focal points. Her style is impressionistic as she alludes to a sense of place or belonging. She is passionate about experimenting with new processes and determining new ways to produce exciting texture.

Color has always been an important element in Sally’s work. Katherine Chang-Liu describes Sally as “Very thorough in her color investigations which lead to atmosphere and mood in her work- that really catch your attention!”  At the Visual Arts Society of Texas 39th Annual State Exhibition her work was described as “Progressive and forward-thinking”. To keep her art fresh and exciting she swaps media or alternates from large canvases to miniature watercolors. The constant change keeps the creative juices flowing. At a recent exhibition, “Four Directions” at Allen Heritage Museum, local Plano resident, Shirlee Schupbach commented on her new work on canvas: “I get a tranquil feeling just looking at it!”

She recently had art work published in Nita Leland’s latest book “Confident Color” (Sept 2008). She has 3 articles in local magazines and appeared on HGTV's “That's Clever!”  December, 2007; demonstrating 3 holiday mixed-media art-cards. She has exhibited in many local, state and national shows. Her work is in private collections in Germany, U.K., California and Texas.

She enjoys teaching children and adults, particularly acrylics, drawing and watercolor and offers numerous workshops during the summer.
